This is how the latest silicone hydrogel launch is described by its manufacturer; even the lens blister-pack is heart-shaped!  Following its successful introduction at this year's BCLA Conference, UltraVision has launched the new silicone hydrogel lens from global contact lens giant Menicon. Menicon PremiO is a new advanced silicone hydrogel contact lens utilising two significant proprietary breakthrough technologies; a new water-philic monomer MeniSilkT combined with NanoglossT, a state of the art surface technology creating a smooth, reproducible surface for enhanced wettability. To optimise ocular health and flexibility for the patient, the lens is available as a 2-week replacement daily/flexi wear lens or for 1-week replacement in an extended wear modality.

As might be expected from a world-leader in the development of hyper Dk RGP materials, Menicon PremiO has a hyper Dk of 129, from its 40% water content, resulting in a transmissibility value of 161 at the centre of a -3.00D lens. Two base curves (8.30mm & 8.60mm) combine with a 14.00mm diameter, to ensure that patients get maximum performance from an optimal lens fit. Menicon PremiO is available now, in the launch parameter range of -7.00D to +2.00D; then early in 2008 extended minus and plus powers will be available.
